How to Test-Drive a Used Car

test-drive a used car

If you have decided that a used car is the right choice for you, you have already made a smart choice. Buying a used car can help save you thousands of dollars. However, if you want to get a great used car and not a mediocre one, you need to know how to test-drive a used car.

  1. Stay neutral. One of the biggest mistakes you can make is mentally buying the car before you have even seen it. Be prepared to say no even if it is a car you really wanted.
  2. Do a walkaround. Before getting in the car, do a thorough inspection of the exterior. Look for signs of damage, uneven tire wear, or noticeable leaks underneath the car.
  3. Start the engine. Star the car and let the engine idle while you listen. Do you hear any squeaks or other unwanted noises?
  4. Test the interior. While the engine is running, take a seat inside. Make sure you can fully adjust the seat into a comfortable driving position. Test the interior components, like the HVAC, radio, and infotainment system.
  5. Hit the road. Do a thorough road test that includes highway and city driving. Don’t forget to try parking the car and get a feel for how it drives in reverse.

Now that you know how to test-drive a used car, act on it by stopping into Urka Auto Center and checking out our great selection firsthand.

New Buick Crossovers Could Be Joining Lineup in Near Future

new Buick crossovers

Buick has established itself as one of the industry’s leading brand for high-end crossovers and SUVs. From the ever-popular Encore to the refined Envision to the ultra-lux experience of the Enclave Avenir, drivers far and wide love everything that Buick has to offer. Now it seems that there will be even more to love in the future with the possible addition of new Buick crossovers.

GM Authority got hold of a document that suggests there will be as many as three new crossovers joining the Buick lineup in the years ahead: the Buick Envoy, the Buick Enspire, and an as-yet-unnamed crossover known as JBUB. The document suggests that these vehicles could originate and be sold in China, but there’s the possibility — given the crossover appeal (pun intended) of the Envision — that any of these could wind up coming the United States in the future.

With the Buick LaCrosse likely leaving the lineup after 2019, there will be plenty of space open for an exciting new crossover to join the family. While it’s likely too early to speculate, you might be able to reasonably expect a crossover with a hybrid or plug-in hybrid powertrain variant as the industry moves increasingly toward alternative powertrain options.

Watch this space to learn more about what you can expect from Buick in the future. To see the best of what Buick has to offer today, stop into Urka Auto Center.

How to Winterize Your Car for Michigan Weather

winterize your car for Michigan weather

The long, cold months of winter ahead pose a challenge to your vehicle. If you are prepared ahead of the snow, sleet, and ice, you may have less trouble with the winter weather than others.

Test your battery

Extremely low temperatures can dramatically reduce battery capacity. Have your battery tested and possibly even replaced to prevent the dreaded engine turnover. You don’t want to end up on the side of the road with a dead battery!

Replace and refill fluids

Things like oil, coolant, brake fluid, and wiper fluid should be checked and replaced or refilled before temperatures drop. Switch to winter-friendly wiper fluid to improve visibility.

Switch tires

It’s important to keep an eye on the tread of your vehicle’s tires because worn treads will slip easier. Consider making the switch to winter or snow tires, which are made out of special rubber and have unique tread patterns for better grip.

Pack an Emergency Kit

Emergency situations can happen, so it’s best to be prepared for the possibility. Pack an emergency kit in the trunk of your vehicle with necessities like nonperishable snacks, water bottles, blankets, jumper cables, and a flashlight.

If you need any help getting your ride ready for winter, stop into Urka Auto Center and we’ll help you get it done.

2019 Silverado 1500 vs Silverado LD: What’s the Difference?

2019 Silverado LDFor the 2019 model year, Chevrolet has introduced two distinct Silverado 1500 options for pickup drivers: The 2019 Silverado 1500 and the Silverado LD. The 2019 Chevrolet Silverado is an all-new Silverado 1500 pickup, featuring upgraded powertrain options and new exterior styling. The Silverado LD, on the other hand, is a repackaged 2018 Silverado 1500. Both pickups offer different things, so comparing the two isn’t a matter of “which is better,” but “which is right for me.”

Value

The biggest difference between the all-new 2019 Silverado 1500 and the Silverado LD is their respective price tags. The 2019 Silverado 1500 starts with an MSRP of $32,200. The Silverado LD, on the other hand, starts at $28,300. And while some of the features of the Silverado LD are one year behind the all-new 2019 Silverado 1500, the extra savings make it an incredible option for a ton of drivers.

Styling

Another key difference between the 2019 Silverado 1500 and the Silverado LD is exterior styling. While the Silverado LD features the familiar style of last-generation Silverado pickups, the 2019 Silverado 1500 features a new styling that is bolder and more contoured. This will be a matter of personal taste for most drivers.

Power

Finally, the 2019 Silverado 1500 is available with more power than the Silverado LD. The Silverado LD maxes out at an impressive 355 horsepower while the 2019 Silverado 1500 is capable of up to 420 horsepower. So, if power is your absolute highest priority, the new 2019 Silverado 1500 might be the way to go.

If you’re still on the fence, the best way to make that final call might be to come into Urka Auto Center and take a test drive both in the all-new 2019 Chevrolet Silverado and in the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado LD.

Halloween Safety Tips

Halloween Safety Tips

October is a wonderful time of year, especially if you love a good fright every now and then. For your kids, it’s an even more fun time of year thanks to the tradition of trick-or-treating. If you and your family are planning on going out on Halloween, whether it be for trick-or-treating or heading to a costume party, keep these handy Halloween safety tips in mind.

Driving Safety

  • When driving through residential areas, use extreme caution. Kids are excited and will not always act predictably.
  • Take extra time at intersections to look for kids.
  • Drive slowly when entering or exiting your driveway.
  • Put away any potential distractions in your car so you can focus on your driving.

Walking Safety

  • Always cross the street at corners and use crosswalks, if available.
  • Look both ways before you cross and continue to look as you walk.
  • Put away your phone and stay alert as you cross the street.
  • Show your children how to make eye contact with drivers before you cross in front of them.
  • Walk on the sidewalks, if available. If you don’t have any sidewalks, walk facing traffic and stay to the far left.

Costume Safety

  • Wear regular shoes so you don’t trip over your feet.
  • Add reflective tape to your costume or carry glow sticks to make yourself more visible.
  • Use makeup and paint in place of masks for better visibility.

Have fun out there, and from your friends at Urka Auto Center, have a happy, happy Halloween!
